About BRU Producer's Edition
Protect Your Creative Assets — The creation of music and films are complex art forms. Capturing each note and frame is critical because they may not be easily nor voluntarily reproducible. And once a session is appropriately captured and catalogued, it is critical that it can be reproduced and reliably accessed for production into a commercial title.
The functionality of Producer's Edition (PE) for Mac OS X was defined with input from AES and NARAS members to assure pertinence to the recording industry. Film and music recording engineers, users and graphic designers, regardless of their computer technical knowledge, can use Producer's Edition effectively and with confidence.
BRU Producer's Edition™ from TOLIS Group creates easy, drag-and-drop creative artist session archives.
Music and Film Industry Engineers and users now have a reliable, flexible, and easy-to-use solution to protect key creative digital assets regardless of their computer technical knowledge. BRU PE also delivers a clear and easy-to-follow workflow for graphic designers as well.
Customer Testimonial:
Highlights
- NEW – Creation of a BRUsetta Stone™ CD/DVD after a backup or archival job completes. The BRUsetta Stone disk is like the original Rosetta Stone in that it will contain all of the information a user would need to import and restore the tapes associated with the disk. It includes the PDF version of the catalogs, the actual tape and archive information for essay importing into a different BRU PE system, and even a copy of the BRU PE Universal Binary installation DMG. You are also allowed to add custom files and data to the disk image before it is burned to CD or DVD. Note that you must keep a copy of your BRU PE Installer DMG available to include on the CD/DVD.
- NEW – Printing of a job's catalog and status when a job completes. The report supports the assignment of a custom cover image. You may also select an archive in the Restore panel and print the catalog and archive details for any existing archive on your system.
- NEW – Creation of a sharable catalog collection to enable simplified addition of archives and tape media between multiple BRU PE installations. This allows all associated BRU PE system to have the details for all archives and tapes for easier recovery of data if the original system is not available for a restore job.
- NEW – Option to supply operator-defined job information, or metadata. The metadata provides four subject areas and each subject may contain any textual data up to 10,000 characters in length. The metadata will be saved with the archive or backup information and included in exported catalog info or on the BRUsetta Stone CD/DVD.
- NEW – Improved Toolbar layout and operation in both QuickArchive and Advanced View modes.
- NEW – Improved control flow when using tab between controls when full keyboard access is enabled.
- NEW – Improved the backup progress windows to display the current path and file as separate lines for more useful display of what was currently being processed.
- NEW – Added a "Last Run" indicator on the Advanced View pane for selected jobs.
- NEW – Updated Final Cut Pro session parsing to include both FCP 8 native and XML session formats.
- NEW – Removed predefined path buttons from QuickArchive view mode. the largest majority of users were not using them. And the number of support calls generated indicated that they were more confusing that useful since populating the backup selection is as easy as drag and drop from the users' desktop.

- Tape Library Support up to two (2) drives and 24 slots.
- Engineers/Operators can choose to create a single archive element containing all assigned components on one set of backup tapes, multiple archives containing one or multiple components on a single set of backup tapes, or multiple tapes with one or multiple components per tape.
- Ease-of-use and reliability recording engineers/operators will appreciate.
- Universal Binary & PPC or Intel processor compliant.
BRU Producer's Edition is multi-processor and multi-core aware and compatible, and while already

Ease-of-Use
Recording engineers and users can simply drag-and-drop session files, volumes, or folders into the PE environment for easy creation of the archives. Applications currently supported by this functionality include: Sonic Studio™, Logic®, Final Cut Pro®, Soundtrack Pro®, default ProTools® 7.4 & 8.0 and select others.
Out-of-the-box, Producer's Edition supports all tape technology and no special drivers are required - PE will support the tape technology you are currently using or are moving toward. Additionally, the multithreaded design used in Producer's Edition unleashes the performance of the most modern tape drives.
Archive Creation - Your Way
Producer's Edition provides controls that define how the archives are placed on the backup media to suit your needs. You can single-drop multiple sources into PE to create single or multiple tapes or archives:
- Single archive element containing all assigned components on one set of backup tapes
- Multiple archives containing one or multiple components on a single set of backup tapes
- Multiple tapes with one or multiple components per tape
Producer's Edition provides additional flexibility through the ability to create on-site/off-site archival tape copies simultaneously. This capability eliminates the need to perform two (2) separate backup operations and reduces the potential of human error.
Technology Obsolescence Protection - Future-Proof You Archival Processes
Computing storage technology changes on an almost daily basis. What was bleeding edge last
week is old news next week. This "Technology Creep" can play havoc with an organization's
long term storage and archival requirements. Will the technology used to store or archive
our assets today be available to permit recovery of that data in 5 or 10 years (let alone
25)? Will our archives become as obsolete as last year's shoe styles?
With the suite of tools provided with BRU PE, that becomes far less of a concern since BRU PE includes a full license to the TOLIS Tape Tools product.
By using the "tapecopy" utility, you can copy data from one tape technology or media type to another - say AIT to LTO, or LTO-1 to LTO-4 - with a simple command. No longer do you need to worry about how you're going to recover archived assets in the future - BRU PE and TOLIS Tape Tools ensure that you can keep your archival process in step with the advances in technology without requiring restoring and re-archiving old data to make use of the newest storage technologies.
Hitting the "High Note"
NARAS has produced a standards document that addresses all aspects of the Recording Industry. The critical capture and protection of creative assets is a component of that standards document, and TOLIS Group's BRU™ technology is most favorably positioned. Producer's Edition now affords artists, recording engineers, and operators an archive creation tool that can be used with confidence.
Positioning BRU PE and BRU Server
BRU Server and BRU PE are complimentary solutions that work in concert flawlessly. BRU Server is a network backup and restore solution that backs-up servers and systems attached to the network to a central repository: disk-to-disk (D2D), disk-to-tape (D2T) or disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T). BRU Server will backup and restore all files on any system running BRU PE that is attached to the network.
In contrast, BRU PE is a tool specifically designed to create archives of key digital music, film and graphical content with all associated elements. Engineers, operators and users can implement BRU PE easily at the workstation level, regardless of their computer expertise, whereas a System Administrator or Network Administrator administers BRU Server.
Additionally, BRU PE and BRU Server archives are fully compatible with one another, thus an archive made with either application may be restored by either application. This provides further control over your archives since you are then not limited by a single application.
Use BRU Server for your corporate (when applicable) day-to-day backup and use PE for easy archival of your digital assets.
