System Requirements
BRU PE Software Requirements
The system requirements for BRU PE are quite minimal. However, be aware that the speed of your backups will greatly depend on the capabilities of your system. A QuadCore Mac Pro with 4GB of RAM will be able to push an LTO-5 tape drive much faster than a PPC G3 with 1GB of RAM.
The requirements in order to be able to run and use BRU PE are as follows:
- Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher (including Mac OS X Lion). However, 10.4.9 and 10.4.10 are not supported.
- Enough memory to run your operating system.
- Approximately 110MB of disk space plus room for archive catalog storage.
BRU PE Lion Upgrade Notice
Users that want to upgrade their Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) systems to Lion (10.7) may do so, however, BEFORE doing so, please see our Lion Upgrade Warning.
LTFS Support Requirements
Requirements to use BRU PE with the BRU PE LTFS Manager:
- Approximately 50MB disk space for the MacFUSE, ICU, and LTFS installations
- Intel-based Mac Pro or Xserve running Mac OS X 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard - update 5) or higher
- LTFS-compatible LTO-5 tape drive
- MacFUSE Version 2.1.9 for 32 and 64 bit Mac OS X systems
- ICU 4.0.1 Libraries (International Components for Unicode)
- LTFS Drivers version 1.2.0
The following items are NOT supported by LTFS:
- PowerPC Systems
- Systems running earlier versions of Mac OS X prior to 10.6.5
- Systems that do not support PCIe® expansion (Fibre Channel or SAS) — because you cannot connect an LTO-5 tape drive
- LTO-5 drives connected via iSCSI
LTFS Driver Download
For customers with LTO-5 tape devices from TOLIS Group, the LTFS drivers can be downloaded from the TOLIS Group Hardware Downloads section. For customers with LTO-5 tape devices from other vendors, please contact your LTO-5 vendor to obtain the LTFS drivers for your LTO-5 tape device.
If you are unsure if BRU PE will run on your system, feel free to contact BRU Sales.
