BRU PE 2.3.0 Now Available!
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of BRU Producer's Edition version 2.3.0 build 583!
New Features for BRU PE 2.3.0
- BRU PE 2.3.0 supports LTFS (Linear Tape File System) with LTO-5 drives on Intel-based Mac systems running OS X 10.6 or 10.7 — See The BRU PE User Guide for specific details for using the BRU PE LTFS Manager.
NOTE: Because LTFS requires partitioning support from both the tape drive and the media, LTFS is not available on LTO-4 and earlier devices and will never be available. Additionally, LTFS tapes cannot be used for normal BRU backup or archive operations.
- BRU PE 2.3.0supports running Doubler Mode operations using dual drive libraries such as the TOLIS Group TGL2240 or the HP MSL-2024. This allows you to automate tape changes for larger (greater than 1 tape capacity) Doubler Mode archival operations.
- New "How Many Tapes" option on the Advanced View and QuickArchive home screens. This option will display the amount of data that will be included in the archive and, in the event you are using LTO-4 or LTO-5 drives, an estimated number of tapes that will be required for the job before you start the archive job (based on tape native capacity).
- The Search results dialog now displays the tape set name and volume for the files found in a search operation and results display performance is improved.
- BRU PE's environment is now located in "/Library/Application Support/BRU PE/". The installer will automatically upgrade your existing BRU PE environment.
- New BRU PE Tape Import Tool v2.3.0 to import unknown tapes into BRU PE.
Fixes in BRU PE 2.3.0
- Dramatically improved performance when parsing folders containing tens of thousands of files (such as a segment of dpx frames). Current display performance is approximately 15K files in under 30 seconds.
- Resolved an issue that could cause the controls to improperly position on the QuickArchive view when the window was resized.
- Resolved an issue that could cause the "Rewinding Tape" dialog to stay open during a backup operation even though the rewind had completed and the backup had begun.
- The Restore panel no properly displays a tape's archive list if archives on the tape have the exact same name as the tape set.
- Improved performance of the verify pass on LTO-5 tape drives. The verify pass now runs at full drive speed dependent only on the file content of the archive set (i.e.: 100,000's of small - sub-100k - files can still cause a read slowdown).
- Resolved issue with crash that could occur during the Verify pass on a multi-volume archive.
- Resolved an issue that prevented BRU PE from properly searching ALL archives when a specific archive was not selected.
- Resolved an issue that could cause the files / folders located in a Search operation to not properly populate the restore selection list , resulting in a failed restore of the selected data.
- Resolved an append versus overwrite confusion that could occur if you used the Separate Tapes option in QuickArchive Mode for separating archives to separate tapes. The issue arose because the first tape would be written according to your overwrite settings while any additional tape would be defaulted to Append mode.
- Resolved an issue when restoring when you have selected non-contiguous files from multiple tapes in a multi-tape archive set that would always ask for the first tape instead of the proper tape volume after each restore segment was completed.
- Resolved issue with Restore panel splitter that would appear in an odd location and then not resize the listboxes if you had exited the app with the Advanced View window open and larger than the default size.
- Resolved an issue that could cause the tape set name for Doubler Mode archives to be incorrect for the second and remaining tapes for a multi-tape set.
- Resolved an issue that would cause similarly named tapes to confuse the tape volume request when restoring.
- Resolved an issue where a Library-based job would never start if there was a tape in the mouth of the drive rather than being properly loaded. This state occurred when the tape was ejected from the drive, but not returned to its slot in the library.
- Resolved an issue with initial configuration that would cause the selection for a standalone tape drive to be selected even though the user specified a library destination as the default archival destination.
- Resolved an issue on the Destination Assignment dialog that would prevent the available tapes list from becoming enabled if you clicked into the empty area of the Current Destinations listbox.
